Nearly 9,000 people were sent to prison in Ireland last year for non-payment of fines. This includes more than 2,000 women; a massive increase on the 159 women sent to prison for this 'offence' in 2007. More than 400 were also sent to jail for not paying a TV licence that finances 83 staff at RTE on 100,000 euro plus salaries. In contrast, not one banker or politician was sent to jail for destroying the country. Jail the Bankers, not the Poor!
