Uprising declared across Palestinian territories

Israeli soldiers opened fire on a rally killing six Palestinians and injuring over 20 more. The shots were fired across the border into Gaza and come in the wake of an increasing level of violence and repression from the Israeli state.

A few weeks ago the Israeli state passed a law making it legal for police and soldiers to fire live rounds into Palestinian crowds. This makes it legal to shoot Palestinian protesters.

The rally was in support of West Bank Palestinians who have been on the receiving end of violent attacks. An Israeli attacker stabbed two Palestinians and two Israeli Arabs before telling police that “All Arabs are terrorists!”

There are mass protests in the occupied West Bank, East Jerusalem and Israeli towns with large populations of Arab citizens.

“We feel that the intifada has begun,” said Mohammad Zeid, 23, an activist at Birzeit University, on a hill outside Ramallah.

The ongoing repression by the Israeli state has produced a backlash from the Palestinians. Socialists fully support the right of the oppressed to defend themselves and to fight back.

Israel is not a normal state- it is a racist state built on the violent expulsion and continued oppression of the Palestinian people.

Three-quarters of East Jerusalem’s 300,200 Palestinian residents live below the poverty line, including 83.9 percent of children.

Here in the West we must stand in solidarity with the Palestinian protests, continue to build the boycott movement and protest in large numbers if Israeli aggression escalates.
